Quick facts

Countries: South America consist of 12 countries mostly in the Southern Hemisphere: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguya, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay, Venezuela, and also Falkland Islands, South Georgia, and South Sandwich Islands.

Transport: Flights and tourist buses are the two most common ways to travel. Don’t underestimate the distances even for domestic flights in the countries.

Currency: Each country has their own currency and ATm fee can be steep. I recommend having USD cash on you to exchange.

Sim card: If you are travelling across different countries, it’s easiest to get an E-Sim for the region so you have connection on arrival. I’ll also list out where to get sim cards in individual posts. You can check Yesim and Airalo

Handy apps: Uber for taxis and Google translate

Language: Spanish is the most common language on the continent, but remember Brazil speaks Portugese. It would be very useful to learn some Spanish before the trip as English is not as widely spoken.
