Malaysia
Malaysia is one of the more underrated countries in Southeast Asia, although I could be bias since my Dad’s side of the family is Penang. From the best street food to eat in Penang to hiking Mount Kinabalu in Sabah, there are plenty to see in this underrated country:

Transport: Malaysia has a lot of traffic jams in the city, but buses are the only way to get around as there isn’t a good train network. Of course, if you want to go to Borneo’s side, you’d have to fly!
Currency: Malaysian Ringgit, which is roughly 1 RM to 1 HKD and 0.25 USD
Sim Card: I used Yoodoo which has an app and is quite handy. It’s good for long stay. Otherwise, there are great options on Klook.
Handy apps: Grab for taxi in city, Klook for tickets and activities
Language: Malaysia is a multi-ethnic nation. The majority speak English and also Malay, Hokkien, Mandarin, and even Cantonese.
