Amara Shanghai, which opened in 2020, is an upscale hotel situated in the vibrant Jing’an district, specifically in the Putuo area. It’s in the heart of the Putuo area where you can see the daily life of the Shanghainese without being too far from sights and good restaurants, making it a comfortable choice for those who want a glimpse of the real Shanghai without being too far.

Amenities in Amara Shanghai
Amara Shanghai is one of the few hotels that has an outdoor swimming pool and it opens during the sunset season.
Swimming Pool

The outdoor swimming pool is located between the hotel and the office building across, with a nice view of the surrounding area. There is a shallower pool for children and a main pool, but no sun loungers!
Open: 6am – 6pm during summer
Gym

A well-equipped fitness center with treadmills, ellipticals, and even power plates for cardio, and a comprehensive set of weights along with a pulley machine.
Open 24 hours!
Executive Lounge

The executive lounge is for executive room level guests and opens from noon offering refreshments, in particular the happy hour with free flow wine and a good selection of snacks.

I went there just before sunset and was able to watch the swallows in the area flying around, putting on quite a show!
Open: 12am – 9pm
Dining options in Amara Shanghai
There are 3 restaurants in the hotel if you don’t want to go outside!
Thanying Restaurant

Amara is a brand that originated from Thailand and they have a restaurant not inside the hotel but in the mall attached. Run by a Thai chef and Thai staff as well, they have authentic Thai food and Thai tea that I was quite happy to eat!

We tried their lunch set, which honestly was enough food for four girls not two girls!
BLU All Day Dining
The BLU All Day Dining is on the 2nd floor of the hotel serving both the buffet breakfast and a western and Chinese menu for the rest of the day.
I had a Chinese lunch set there and was really pleasantly surprised by the value and quality. The set menu was focused on Shanghainese food:

FLO Lobby Bar
The FLO Lobby Bar is just to the left of the lobby when you enter. It’s a chill and chic spot for coffee, cocktails, and light bite, with floor to ceiling window that lets in lots of natural light and a view of the trees.

I tried their Summer Serenade Afternoon Tea with ten delicious treats including scones, prawn tart, custard tarts, and various other sweet treats.
Info: 258 RMB for 2, available 2-5pm
